This is a live version of one of the songs from our upcoming concept album "Grey Expectations."

Have you ever stopped to ask yourself, what it all means? Have you discovered that your life has taken a totally different direction than originally intended?

On first listen, you'll think this song is about a guy and a girl in a relationship, which ultimately falls apart because they simply don’t understand one another. The challenge is that each person has yet to figure out who they are and how to embrace their authentic selves, so they push the other person away. You gotta learn to love yourself before you can love someone else, right?

However, the two characters in this song are not actually in a relationship. They represent all of the lost souls who constantly struggle with understanding their purpose and live with regret, yet can't seem to push past it because they're stuck in the past instead of focusing on the future.

The emptiness they feel is a result of what they assume are poor decisions they've made earlier in life... decisions that were often a result of outside influence. Instead of discovering their own path, they allowed others to influence their trajectory.

This song tells the story of the expectations and pressure that regularly influence our decision-making process... often at the expense of our own happiness. When you live your life according to what society deems appropriate, you find yourself in "Black Water."

lyrics

HOOK 1 (Beth Kille, Erik Kjelland, Kit Whitacre)
They keep hol-din on
But feel like somethin’s missin
They thinkin “what went wrong?”
We thinkin “who they kiddin?"

VERSE 1 (Tyler Durdin)
She’s been pushed too far and pulled apart
He's been ripped to pieces, it destroyed his heart
They both thinkin bout the bucket list they swore to start
And all the dead end careers that they both, swore to part
Now, 20 years have passed and it’s the same routine
This ain’t the life that they wanted it’s the life they... lead
Cause now they only follow the crowd
A pack of ants that keep marchin til they swallowed and drown
Take a chance? Hell nah they just wallow around
Countin it down to the weekend or just, countin it down
Full of grief no relief in need of hugs and a smile
Cause they forgot that they were sweet and always loved as a child
Instead of gettin dialed in they just plugged to the dial
Tryin to forget about the baggage that they luggin around
So start diggin, but what have they found
A bunch of questions without answers and nuttin profound
A bunch of tricks and nonsense they accustomed to now
They hate that fate kept em grounded but they stuck in the clouds
I know it sound like a bummer til those uppers go down
Think the world gettin dumber they just numb to it now
No one told em start running so they muckin around
They say the noise gettin louder but they lovin the sound
Enough to lift the sails a bit, ‘fore they run it aground
They can’t help feeling sorry too bad it’s sorry for now

HOOK 2 (Beth Kille, Erik Kjelland, Kit Whitacre)
They keep… hol-din on
But feel like somethin’s missin
They thinkin “what went wrong?”
We thinkin “who they kiddin?
It’s just the same ole song
But they don’t stop to listen
Trying to climb to the surface
But now they constantly diggin
They keep on drivin in circles
Since birth it won’t stop spinnin

VERSE 2 (Cash The PRO)
She wants it to work he wants to play
She tired of feeling low he wants a raise
He wants a night off she feels in a daze
Cause she wants to talk and he dont know to say
They both so lost but cant find a way
Finding truth in the pools of the chardonnay
He needs something new cause it's all the same
And she needs to know that it ain't all a game
Maybe his anger from a meaningless search
While she found that the makeup hides her deepening hurt
And high heels lifts her esteem when shes seeking to flirt
And he wants to be a good guy but still speaks like a jerk
But he's been passed over passed by and passed pissed
Her past bruised her her past schooled her she past it
Now what we're left with is what the past did
When did the magic turn so Jurassic
Cause what's new to them to him seems so classic
And what's getting old to her could be replaced with plastic
While he feels that his life was so tragic
She feels maybe her change was too drastic
All the world's a stage and they put on best show
No idea how they getting by it's something they just know
Caught up in a high whenever it gets low
Hanging on to the hope cause they too scared to let go

VERSE 3 (Beth Kille, Erik Kjelland, Kit Whitacre)
He feels inspired
But he’s locked in his cage
She feels the fire
But she’s stopped in the rain
We all desire
What we not gonna chase
We wanna taste that new attire
But we not gonna change?
She keeps on dreamin
Cause she’s never awake
He keeps on leavin
Cause his head’s in the way
They keep on breathin
But stopped believin they’re great
They feelin weak, do they keep reachin
Should they leave it to fate?

REFRAIN (Beth Kille, Erik Kjelland, Kit Whitacre, Tyler Durdin)
One day you can be an actor
One day you can be a king
One day you gonna be the queen of hearts
A lotta nights you gonna cry ta sleep
One day you can be the president
One day you can be at peace
One day you can play the deuce of spades
Most days you only got a three
One day you gonna be a rock star
But you really need a J - O - B
One day you thinkin that you all in love
The next day you gonna wanna cheat
One day you’ll see you had a choice to make
You can stand or you can take a seat
Cause one day you’ll see, the wolves all win
Cause the dreamers count on all the sheep

OUTRO (Beth Kille, Erik Kjelland, Kit Whitacre)
They say it’s easy to quit
Without a lesson to face
That’s why they never take the credit
When the debt’s their mistake
They may regret it...
But they expected to wait
She said “I’m sorry, I’m too early”
He said, “Sorry I’m late”
